Who's Behind This

Michelle finishing the NYC Half Marathon

I've finished 70+ half marathons and 11 marathons. Along the way, I've made every training mistake in the book-running long runs too fast, building mileage too quickly, skipping recovery, and overcomplicating fueling.

I built LongRunLogic to answer the questions I had as a runner: How long should my long run actually be? Am I running too much-or not enough? What should I eat during a 2-hour run?

These calculators are the tools I wish I'd had years ago.

The Mission

Running advice online is either too vague ("just run easy") or too rigid ("you must run 20 miles"). LongRunLogic provides the middle ground: specific, personalized guidance that respects individual variation.

Our calculators give you a starting point based on proven training principles. The context around them helps you understand why-so you can make informed decisions about your own training.

What We Believe

  • Ranges matter more than rules. "20-30% of weekly mileage" is more useful than "exactly 18 miles."
  • Recovery cost is real. A long run isn't just about fitness-it's about sustainable training.
  • Context beats prescription. The right answer depends on your mileage, goals, and experience.
  • Simple tools should be free. No paywalls, no gatekeeping.

How the Calculators Work

The recommendations are based on:

  • Established coaching principles from Daniels, Pfitzinger, Hudson, and others
  • Exercise physiology research on glycogen depletion, recovery demands, and adaptation
  • Personal experience from 80+ races and thousands of training miles

I cite sources and explain the reasoning. See the Methodology page for details.

What This Site Doesn't Do

  • Create full training plans (we provide context, not programs)
  • Replace a coach or medical professional
  • Track your workouts or progress
